The Importance of Wireless Communications in Developing Areas

Technology has had an extremely significant impact on society. It allows people to educate themselves, to communicate, and to evolve at a rapid pace due to the rapid sharing of information.

The problem is that many developing nations lack the means to utilize this technology. They lack the infrastructure required to maintain services like readily available Internet connections and wireless communications, which in turn makes these services incredibly costly to gain access to.

This inaccessible nature of technology can be changed by the simple introduction of wireless networks and communications. Doing so is likely the most cost-effective strategy available in developing areas for those who want to create their own technology without reliance on outside companies or organizations.

Reasons for Wireless Communications

There are several reasons as to why wireless communications is the choice technology for developing nations. Not only does it provide rapid communication and reinforce the development of urban areas, it also exists as one of the most cost-efficient technologies. This makes it something businesses can invest in and something that consumers can afford.

The primary reason that developing nations should invest in wireless communications is it complements other developments that already exist and facilitates more capital investment. For example, it can make emergency medical services easier to obtain, which in turn allows for the medical sector to develop.

Another reason to invest in wireless technology concerns its cost-efficiency. Cellular towers are relatively cheap to create and maintain as they require no more than a power source so they can amplify signals in the air. There’s also no need to launch satellite dishes as wireless services can often rent these for pennies on the dollar from companies that own satellites already in geosynchronous orbit.

This cost-efficiency then facilitates the availability of wireless communications to consumers. Afghan Wireless is a prime example of how smart businesses can make communicating with family, friends and even other businesses possible in places that would otherwise require face-to-face communications.

Another favorable quality of wireless technology is that it can be used to supplement the need for a traditional copper communications network, which would otherwise be too costly for most developing areas to afford. This allows the use of mobile phones to replace traditional phone lines with only a few minor disadvantages.

Creating Communities

The most interesting thing about the development of wireless communications in developing areas of the world is that it can foster a sense of community. As more people become connected to wireless communications, more individuals are allowed to develop personal connections with one another. Over time, this translates into everything from friendships to bona fide business partnerships.

As time progresses further, this can lead to the development of additional urban areas. This is key to ensuring that developing areas can grow their own technology sector, which in turn starts the very long process of improving the quality of life that most citizens have in that area.

The bottom line is, wireless communications foster a myriad of innovations that tend to lead to the development of local areas and regions. This is key to developing areas into healthy urban locations that reinforce a nation’s developing industrial, medical and technological sectors while working to improve the overall quality of life for citizens.

The Basics of VoIP - Is It a Smart Choice for You?

While most people use a cell phone as their primary phone line now, most businesses still need the reliability of a landline. There’s another alternative, however, that more and more people and businesses are considering – VoIP.. Its cheap rates make it worth considering for any home or business. If you’re thinking about switching to VoIP, here’s some more information that can help you decide if it’s right for you.

How Does VoIP Work?

VoIP works using an Internet connection. Just like with mobiles or landlines, there are many different VoIP providers. If you want to use VoIP through a landline telephone, you will need to connect an adaptor to your phone. If you want to use VoIP through your smartphone, you’ll need to download a mobile app. You can also use VoIP through your computer, which sometimes requires you to download desktop software. In each case, it’s relatively easy to set up a VoIP line, and you can do it yourself without requiring a service appointment.

Is VoIP Reliable?

The biggest concern with VoIP is reliability. Especially if you use VoIP for your business, you can’t afford to have any service interruptions. VoIP uses your Internet connection, so its reliability is inextricably linked to the reliability of your Internet service. Before choosing VoIP, you must consider how strong your Internet connection is. If you frequently lose your connection or have a very weak connection, VoIP might not be the best choice for you. If you have a strong Internet connection that rarely gives you any problems, VoIP would be equally reliable for you and a viable option for your home or business.

Is the Quality Good?

VoIP technology has improved by leaps and bounds in recent years. In the past, the quality of VoIP wasn’t extremely good, which made it a poor choice for businesses. Lately, however, improvements have given VoIP the potential to have call quality that’s comparable to landlines. The quality of your VoIP will depend on the provider you choose, which is why it’s important to thoroughly research potential providers. You want to pick a company that has a good reputation in your area. For example, if you live in Westchester, New York, a provider would be Steadfast VoIP services in that particular location and choose a company that has a good reputation for quality, as well as efficient customer service.

What are the Major Concerns?

The biggest concerns people have with using VoIP is that if their Internet connection is down, they’ll be unable to make or receive phone calls. If there is an unexpected power outage, you won’t have access to VoIP. In an emergency situation, you must be able to call 911, no matter what. If get VoIP, make sure to register your address so that 911 operators will automatically know where you’re calling from. Because VoIP is tied to your Internet connection, it’s often recommended that you keep your landline telephone as a backup, especially if your business relies on the phone.

If you switch to VoIP for your home or business, you can save lots of money on your inbound and outbound phone calls. As long as you understand the risks of your phone line being tied to your Internet connection and have a backup plan in case of emergency, VoIP may be a genuinely good option for you.

Safer surfing with an SSL certificate

Online hackers – they simply don’t give up. Just when you think you know all the tricks of their trade – email spam, fake wireless access points, and cookie theft among many others along they come with a new and audacious plan– a plan that takes everyone by surprise even the computer programmers and your own anti-virus software.

Computer hackers are the modern day equivalent of the identity thieves who go through rubbish in pursuit of old bank statements and credit card bills. They do it from the comfort of their own living rooms without getting their hands dirty, but essentially they are doing the same thing – gaining access to our bank details in order to commit fraud.

Encrypting Information

While anti-virus software is a powerful tool in the war against identity thieves, sometimes on their own they can’t guarantee protection. If you own a business for example that handles a lot of customers sensitive data you might want to think about investing in SSL encryption by getting an SSL certificate. SSL stands for secure sockets layer and is a form of security for sites that handle sensitive information such as customer names, phone numbers, addresses and credit card numbers.

It encrypts information so that it can only be read and understood by the intended parties. It means that if the information passed between the business and consumer is intercepted by a third party they will be unable to read it unless they have the right encryption key. SSL certificates make life imminently more difficult for the fraudster, while also helping to build trust with the consumer.

In order to meet Payment Card Industry compliance, an online business needs an SSL certificate with the proper encryption of at least 128-bit. PCI standards verify that the SSL certificate is from a trusted source, uses the right strength of encryption and provides a private connection on any page that requires customers to enter personal information. Without a certificate that meets these standards, a site won’t be able to take credit card payments.

Installing an SSL certificate

Depending on the type of SSL applied for, the organisation will need to go through differing levels of vetting. Once installed, it is possible to connect to the website over https://www.domain.com, as this tells the server to establish a secure connection with the browser. Once a secure connection is established, all web traffic between the web server and the web browser will be secure.
